戴耀廷在 Facebook 发文宣布决定提出上诉。他表示尽管上诉不可能成功，但大学以外势力在今次事件中推翻大学决定是昭然若揭，不能让林郑月娥置身于伤害香港学术自由的事件之外。关于会否就校委会决定提出司法复核，戴耀廷表示仍待与律师团队商讨。

另外，戴耀廷公开他向校委会提交的文件，显示港大教务委员会此前调查认定他有个人行为不检，但不足以成为合理的解雇原因，但校委会最终没有接纳教委会结论，而以大比数通过解雇他。
